Due to the 13-year Syrian civil war, more than 600,000 people lost their lives. The war caused 13 million Syrians to migrate; 6 million of which fled the country, while another 7 million were internally displaced. Since the war broke, IHH has been conducting relief efforts for Syrian war victims. In 2024 alone, IHH sent 1,194 trucks of aid which was able to assist as much as 400,000 people. After the fall of the Assad regime in December 2024, we expanded our operations - from the rural areas of Idlib and Aleppo - to the cities of Damascus, Latakia, Hama, Homs, and Deir ez-Zor.
“City of Hope” for 1,400 families
In collaboration with Qatar Charity, IHH built a 1,400-unit residential project called the “City of Hope” in Aleppo, Syria. This city was constructed for 1,400 war-affected families staying at the Bab al-Salam Refugee Camp. The relocation of these families is still ongoing.
The City comprises nine neighborhoods, including 1,200 50-squaremeter houses and 200 100-squaremeter houses, totaling 1,400 residential units. Additionally, the City also features a mosque, four schools (one for girls, one for boys, a kindergarten, and a vocational school), a community education center, a sports complex, a clinic, a multipurpose conference hall, an administrative building, a police station, and a marketplace with 50 shops.
Earthquake victims
In a collaboration with Bosnian aid organizations Islamska Zajednica Bosna Hersek Rijaset and HO Merhamet MDD, IHH has realized a project of 42 houses for earthquake victims in Syria. Located in Idlib, these houses have been granted to 42 families affected by the natural disaster.
On top of that, we have also constructed a 400 people capacity mosque named the “Bosnia Martyrs Mosque” as well as two schools in Aleppo, with a combined capacity for 720 students together with our Bosnian partners.
IHH’s Damascus office
IHH has also inaugurated an office in the capital Damascus. This office aims to expand and facilitate the organization’s relief efforts in the region.
In 2024, IHH distributed 40 million loaves of bread in Syria. Furthermore, 29,343 orphaned children received regular financial and social support through a sponsorship system.
IHH’s works in Syria are still ongoing.
