Food Aid from IHH to 6,500 Ethiopian Families
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation distributed food aid to 6,500 families in Afar and Somali provinces affected by the drought in Ethiopia.

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation reaches out to millions of people who are affected by wars, conflicts, natural disasters, epidemics, poverty and droughts around the world. As a part of emergency aid IHH has delivered food aid to thousands of families who had been the victim of drought in Ethiopia.

IHH teams who reached the region delivered food hampers to 6,500 families who have been badly affected by the drought in Afar and Somali provinces. Elderly, sick, pregnant and homeless were prioritized in the food distribution to 40,000 people. As a part of the aid campaign potable water was distributed for 29 days through 9 water tanks daily in the region.

IHH East Africa coordinator İsmail Songür reported that people migrated to the south due to the increasing death of livestock in Afar province. Songür noted that the effects of the drought tend to slow down due to the start of rain season in certain areas. However the child death rate is on the rise due to undernourishment.

5,6 million people need aid in Ethiopia

Mitiku Kassa National Commissioner of Ethiopia Disaster Risk Management commented that the drought is slowing down however 5,6 million people still need food aid. In recent years millions of people living in East Africa suffer food crisis due to drought. The governments and international humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for immediate delivery of aid to the region.

Thanks to IHH

Meanwhile Ethiopian students who are studying in Turkey paid a visit to IHH headquarters to express their thanks for IHH’s humanitarian efforts in their country. The students who were accompanies by IHH East Africa Desk coordinator İsmail Songür had discussions with IHH vice president Hüseyin Oruç about the recent developments in the region.
