Istanbul, TR – 29 March 2013 - The convoy, loaded with humanitarian aid materials, hit the road from England few weeks ago for Gaza.
Algeria 29.03.2013

The convoy has reached Libya by passing through France, Spain, Algeria and Tunisia. While the convoy was awaited in Libya, a family left the convoy to return back their country. On their way back, three sisters and their father who are British citizens of Pakistani origin, have been kidnapped and detained by unidentified perpetrators.

Following the incident and in accordance with the request of the convoy’s other participants, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation has come into play to run humanitarian diplomacy in order to get the detainees released. IHH’s Humanitarian Diplomacy Delegation which was immediately reached to Libya, determined women detainees’ whereabouts and enable them to be released by mobilizing all efficient parties in the region.

While Libyan people feeling deep sadness due to this incident, many people have staged protests in Benghazi and various districts of Libya condemning the incident. We express our sincere thanks the officers of consulate general of Turkey in Libya as well as Libyan people for the interest they have shown.

We would like to underline that the convoy has not been organized by IHH contrary to what AFP News Agency claims. IHH has not an impact on the convoy’s departure or movement. Having some Freedom Flotilla Activists amongst its participants the convoy has been inspired by “Mavi Marmara” and named with it. IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation has just become involved in the rescue process of the family after the incident.
