Palestine, MiddleEast, Turkey 16.12.2010

The IHH which has brought the tragedy in Gaza before the eyes of the world through various organizations also continues its reconstruction projects in Gaza.

The apartment complex which is located in Jabalia, on the Israeli border, has six units.

A ceremony was held for the opening of the apartment complex. The keys to the flats were given to the families whose houses were demolished by Israeli strikes.

The ceremony was attended by IHH Gaza representative Mehmet Kaya, Gaza housing minister, mayors, representatives from political parties and locals. Israelis also watched the ceremony from the other side of the border.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Kaya said the apartment complex was built thanks to the donations of Turkish charity givers. He said the IHH would continue for the construction of 19 other apartment complexes in Gaza.

“Our biggest problem is that we cannot find construction materials here due to the Israeli blockade. While building this apartment complex, this was the thing that challenged us most. We want to speed up our construction work here. We want to provide homes to more families in a short time. I hope the problems arising from Israel’s blockade will disappear once the blockade is lifted,” said Kaya.

Damaged buildings to be repaired

“Some people break things while others mend them. We will reconstruct the buildings, schools, mosque minarets demolished by Israel. The Palestinian public will see that they are not alone.”

The other participants of the event offered their thanks to the Turkish public for their efforts to help the Palestinian public.
