Aid Appeal for Refugee Camps
IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation made an aid appeal for the camps in the rural areas of Idlib, Syria that were flooded due to heavy rains.
Syria 13.12.2019

Many refugee camps in the rural areas of Idlib, northwest Syria were flooded because of heavy rainfall. The camps in the southern rural regions of Idlib that were once the homes for civilians fleeing the war face the threat of severe floods. In response, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation made an aid appeal for Syria.

65-year-old Aisha Jasim, who took refuge in a camp in the northern outskirts of Idlib after fleeing from her village due to the bombing and whose tent was flooded said, “Seven months ago we fled from our village due to the bombing and took refuge here. I lost 7 children in the attacks. Our homes were destroyed and we lost everything we had. And in this camp, we have suffered from severe rain for 15-20 days now. We are literally living underwater.”

“Families need coal stoves, fuel, food, and hygiene packets”

Selim Tosun, Media Representative of IHH’s Syrian Operations, explained that on top of the cold winter weather and the families’ lack of means, the flooded camps create even greater difficulties. Making an aid appeal for the families that are suffering due to the floods, Tosun said, “The families need coal stoves, fuel, food, and hygiene packets. If the rain continues, within a few days the camps will face the threat of severe flooding. This is why emergency aid must be delivered to the region so these families will not suffer.”
