Living as a “refugee” in their own land
The Syrian people are longing for their homeland as they have been left with no choice but to leave their country as the violence worsens with each passing day due to civil war.
Syria, Turkey 20.06.2014

The Syrian people are longing for their homeland as they have been left with no choice but to leave their country as the violence worsens with each passing day due to civil war. Leaving behind everything and only taking a few oddments, the Syrians sought refuge in neighbouring countries with whatever facilities they had. Some have rented homes and the others are living in camps.

Some citizens who ran away from the conflict zone chose to remain in camps near the Turkish border where they face appalling conditions suffering from freezing cold, illness and poverty waiting for the day that the war will end.

Running away from the constant conflict and attacks, the Syrians saw hope in seeking refuge in Turkey. They pass through to Turkey from Cilvegözü Border Gate with their passports. In the first 5 months of this year, more than 130, 000 Syrians have passed through these gates.

IHH Hatay Syrian Studies Office Press Agent Burak Karacaoğlu has said that the 20th of June World Refugee Day plays an important role for the Syrian refugees.

200,000 PEOPLE IN 50 CAMPS

Karacaoğlu has noted that it has been four years since the civil war has started and the attacks in Syria have not ended even for a second. There will still be many more refugee escapes from the country.

To save their lives a portion of the civilians had to leave their countries taking with them no belongings while others were only able to get a few pieces of oddments and take refuge in Turkey. Some are continuing their lives away from the conflict in camps near Syria, stated Karacaoğlu.

REFUGEE CHILDREN OF WAR

Karacaoğlu stated that since the conflict and violence continued to escalate in Syria, over 1,500,000 children were left with no choice but to migrate with their families.

Karacaoğlu also said “There are over 200,000 Syrians seeking refuge in 50 camps near the Turkish border, 80,000 of them are children. In addition to those who escaped from the Syrian border, the number of children who remained in their country and moved to camp sites near the Turkish border is fairly high. In Atme, the Reyhanli district of Hatay, camps located opposite the zero point of the border, there are more than 80,000 children.”

Karacaoğlu, pointed out that Syrian refugees mostly children and women, who fled their country continued assistance in both Syria and Turkey.

In camps near the Turkish border, food, medicines, bread and other crucial supplies reach the camps within certain intervals said Karacoğlu. He also added that due to the unending war in Syria, the number of Syrians fleeing their country will be increasing as each day goes by.
