Families in Van are reuniting with their homes
With the support of IICO (International Islamic Charitable Organisation) located in central Kuwait, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation built permanent housing which consists of 64 flats, for orphaned families, who have been affected by the Van earthquake. The housing will be distributed to the families after the upcoming ceremony takes place.

With the support of IICO (International Islamic Charitable Organisation) located in central Kuwait, IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation built permanent housing which consists of 64 flats, for orphaned families, who have been affected by the Van earthquake. The housing will be distributed to the families after the upcoming ceremony takes place.

On the 9th of November 2011, an earthquake occurred in Van. 601 people lost their lives, more than 4 thousand people were injured, 2262 buildings were destroyed and tens of thousands of houses and workplaces were severely damaged. The 7.2 magnitude Van earthquake left deep traces in the social, economical and cultural structure. Many people who lived in Van and lost their homes to the tragedy had no other choice but to leave their city. Many of them sought refuge in tents and container camps which was built for them.

The IHH team arrived at disastrous scene on the day of the earthquake and provided emergency aid such as food, housing and medicine. They also identified the victims one by one and developed projects which will offer these people a long lasting solution. Therefore, IHH has supported those in need since 1992. With the assistance of IICO whose headquarters are located in Kuwait, they started the construction of permanent housing for orphaned families and earthquake victims located in central Van.

Key distribution ceremony

The construction of the permanent housing which has finally finished will be celebrated with a key distribution ceremony on the Friday, 21st of November. The Kuwaiti Amir adviser Dr. Abdullah Matuk Al-Matuk, President of IICO and IHH board members will be amongst the many guests during the key distribution ceremony.

Families will live in the housing for free

The construction was built on 7 and a half acres of land in the center of Van. 400 people will live in the buildings which are made up of 4 blocks and 64 apartments. They will also have a cultural center and social club inside they residence. Although the total of this project was 2.625.669 USD, no fees will be requested off families who meet the criteria. IICO charitable foundation whose headquarters are located in Kuwait, have continued to show an ongoing supported at el- Beyli and Oncupinar when helping Syrian refugees in Kilis.

IHH reached over 137,000 orphans every month in 45 countries, including Turkey, through the regular contributions of generous donors. The foundation operated 42 orphanages, 1 orphan education center, and 1 educational campus in 12 countries, touching the lives of hundreds of thousands of children through various projects.

IHH distributed food packages to 14,595 families and served hot meals to 219,865 people. It also implemented various other humanitarian aid projects in different fields.
