Maraş Orphans gather for Kite Fest
IHH volunteers are stepping up summer activities.

Kahramanmaraş Humanitarian Aid Association arranged widely-enjoyed “Kite Fest Hand-in-hand with Orphans” at Kapıçam Picnic Area.

The festivity was attended by a total of 500 participants, including orphan children, their families, volunteers, sponsors, Provincial Health Director İlker Çitil, Family and Social Policies Provincial Director Mehmet Sertpolat, and Memur-Sen Provincial Chairman Adnan Alagöz.

Hundreds of children enjoyed themselves with various games such as tug of war, egg-and-spoon race, simit eating, and kite-flying.

Following lunch and ice-cream treat, the families supported with monthly assistance by the association were handed cash donations.

Süleyman Erayman, chairman of Kahramanmaraş Humanitarian Aid Association, said: “These children with whom we had a picnic, played games and flew kites today are very special for us. We are trying our best to help these children and stand by them not only once a year but all year round. We wanted following the end of the school year to make the children happy by picnicking and playing games with them as a present on the day they received their report cards. Allah willing our orphan care projects will continue as long as Kahramanmaraş residents support them.” 

Att. M. Yusuf Bülbül, head of the Orphan Commission of the Association, stated that the association had achieved a first-of-its-kind program in which they regularly support around 500 orphan children in the city for more than four years through sponsor family system. Bülbül noted the association had been providing financial, psychological and social assistance to the orphans, and added anyone could sponsor an orphan child by paying monthly €40 sponsorship fee.

In addition, three truckloads of humanitarian supplies provided to Ukraine by the IHH in recent weeks have been delivered to war victims.
