Two years have passed since the Israeli attack on the Freedom Flotilla which set sail to take humanitarian aid to Gaza which is giving a struggle for life under the blockade of Israel.
Hundreds of activists from tens of countries who were on board the Mavi Marmara at the time of the attack will meet in İstanbul to condemn the attack on its second anniversary.
IHH is organizing this march to protest Israel and show that the martyrs of Mavi Marmara have not been forgotten. The march will be organized with the slogan “We are walking,” and with the theme “Free Jerusalem.”
IHH President Atty. Bülent Yıldırım will deliver a speech at the event in which he will bring the Israeli atrocities in Palestine to the world’s attention and call for the end of Israeli policies of tyranny and occupation.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the march and chant “For Jerusalem’s liberation,” “Final destination is Freedom” slogans.
The families of the Mavi Marmara martyrs, local and foreign participants will also join the march. The march will take place at İstiklal Street at 7 p.m. on May 31.
What happened on board the Mavi Marmara?
Freedom Flotilla which set sail for Gaza in May 2010 to open a humanitarian aid corridor and break the illegitimate Israeli blockade on the city was attacked by Israeli forces as it was sailing in international waters. The Israeli attack claimed the lives of nine peace activists and injured 56 others.
This honorable initiative launched by civilians brought the realities in Palestine to the world’s attention once again.
Over the past two years, Israel has refused to comply with Turkey’s demands for an apology, compensation to the families of the victims and end of its blockade on Gaza.
