Two sportsmen, Kerem Arda and Serdar Sanrı, will escort their friend Sunaçoğlu while swimming.  Sunaçoğlu said that “As sportsmen, our intention with this demonstration is to support the peaceful ship and her passengers. We will welcome the ship on the sea when she gets closer to Istanbul and will swim with her towards the Sarayburnu port”.   

New record to swim towards Gaza

National swimmer Alper Sunaçoğlu is planning for a new record to swim from Egypt to Gaza. Sunaçoğlu and his two friends, Kerem Arda and Serdar Sanrı will jump into the sea in Sharm al- Sheikh, Egypt to swim for 180 km towards Gaza.

Sunaçoğlu also said that they will swim for humanity, brotherhood and peace towards Mediterranean Sea and also added that by this demonstrations they will confute the claim of Israel who says there are sharks in the coasts of muslims countries.

Sunaçoğlu stated that  “Israel claims that there are sharks in egyptian coasts. The tourism affairs of Muslim neighboring countries are demaged because of the claim. We will see if there is any single shark in the sea while I am in for 32 hours. So I want to show the safety of the coasts. If so there is a shark let it eat me.”

In response to question of “What you will do if Isreal attempt to interefere with you” Sunaçoğlu said that “I am a sportsman. There is no race, religioun or language of sport. Thus I don’t think so that Israel will prevent me”.

He also noted that they will stay in Gaza for a week and teach to Gazan children how to swim after arrival to Gaza by swimming.

The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation provided support to tens of thousands of Palestinians in 2023 through its humanitarian aid activities. IHH distributed food packages to 14,595 families and served hot meals to 219,865 people. It also implemented various other humanitarian aid projects in different fields.
