Is dying for the sake of faith only a topic we hear in songs and books? When you live in East Turkistan, the answer is: No! Meryem Sultan who appeared as a guest on IHH’s YouTube channel said the East Turkistan Muslim Turks are just one of the ethnic groups that the Chinese Government intends to assimilate.

“Turkey has no place in our school books”

Meryem Sultan said that during her childhood, she was “Subjected to the Chinese torture”: She was forced to work from a young age and they were not allowed to practice their faith. Sultan was fortunate enough to be able to come to Turkey, but a majority of her family was subjected to various kinds of assimilation projects in the Concentration Camps. Sultan, who said the people in East Turkistan knew very little about Turkey, related a conversation between her and her mother. “Turkey had no place in our school books. When I asked my mother ‘Where is Turkey’, she replied ‘Turkey is a long way from here, but there are people there very close to us!” According to Sultan’s accounts of East Turkistan, “Being a Muslim there means being prepared for death at any moment.”
