Delivery of aid supplies begins in Pakistan
Delivery of aid supplies recently sent to Pakistan from Turkey on a cargo ship has begun. A ceremony was held before the distribution of the aid supplies to 30.000 flood-stricken families in the north
Pakistan 07.04.2011

The ceremony was held at the IHH’s logistics center near Haripur on the occasion of the beginning of the delivery of humanitarian relief supplies in the country. Haripur Governor Abid Hussein, IHH Pakistan Representative Mehmet Kara and Nedim Ahmed, president of the Khubaib Foundation, IHH’s partner in the region, as well as many other guests attended the ceremony.

Delivering a speech in the event, Kara said humanitarian aid supplies which were collected from Turkey’s 81 provinces will be distributed to 30.000 flood-stricken families in the country’s northern provinces such as Swat, Skardu, Gilgit and Kashmir.

Noting that the IHH reached the region immediately after the flood disaster and launched relief efforts, Kara said the foundation has so far delivered a variety of aid supplies such as food, medicine, tents, blankets, stationery materials, water purification systems, textile and construction materials in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces and aims to continue the delivery of the supplies in the future. Kara also offered his thanks to the charity givers and IHH volunteers who made the delivery of the aid supplies possible in Pakistan.

The IHH which arrived in Pakistan in the aftermath of the floods that hit the country last summer is carrying out a series of relief efforts in the country with its 200 members. The foundation distributes hot meals to the flood victims, offer medical examinations to them, rebuild hospitals, schools, dormitories, mosques and public buildings. The IHH has so far constructed 350 permanent residences for flood victims. The foundation plans to raise this figure to 1000 until the end of the year and give the keys of the homes to the flood-victim families.
