Africa, Somalia, Turkey 18.08.2012

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation is carrying on materializing long-lasting projects across Africa. A number of Somali villagers who are going to teach at Agriculture School to be set up in Somalia were brought to Turkey to receive training in modern farming. The trainers who successfully completed the training have been awarded certificates of completion.

Eleven students who successfully completed the training provided by engineers from the Turkish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock were given certificates at a ceremony at Istanbul SabahattinZaim University. The eleven certificate-holders will be tasked to teach at schools of agriculture to be set up in Somalia.

The students received theoretical training in vegetables gardening, beekeeping and livestock breeding, and got the opportunity to implement the theoretical knowledge in practice in the field provided by the university. The Somali students grew here vegetables such as tomato, pepper, eggplant, melon and watermelon.

The students will be working at schools of agricultures that are planned to set up in Somalia and will be training local people in modern farming techniques. They will be assisting the Turkish trainers to be sent from Turkey. At the end of the three-month long training at SabahattinZaim University, the trainees learnt how to grow 10 different vegetables.
