Since 2011, the civil war in Syria has forced hundreds of thousands of people to migrate to different regions inside and outside Syria. Due to the civil war, tens of thousands of people continue their lives in tent cities in northern Syria under difficult conditions.

IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, which has been providing humanitarian aid in Syria since the beginning of the civil war, has implemented an important project together with Qatar Charity Organization.

Built on 280 acres of land

The “City of Hope” was established in Tukli village of Azaz-Soran town in Northern Aleppo region of Syria for 1400 families who stayed in Babusselam Refugee Camp due to the civil war.

The city, which consists of 9 neighborhoods, has a total of 1400 houses, 1200 of which are 50 square meters and 200 of which are 100 square meters. The city also includes 1 mosque, 4 schools in total, 1 girls' school, 1 boys' school, 1 kindergarten and 1 vocational school, as well as 1 public education center, 1 sports complex, 1 clinic, 1 multi-purpose conference hall, administration building, police station and a bazaar consisting of 50 shops.

On a 280-acre land, the City of Hope was designed to meet all the needs of the families who will settle there, and electricity, lighting, clean and waste water services were equipped within the scope of the project.

The 50 square meter houses in the city consist of 2 rooms, kitchen, toilet, bathroom, courtyard and household furnishings, while the 100 square meter houses consist of 4 rooms, kitchen, toilet, bathroom, courtyard and household furnishings.

Families who have been living under difficult conditions in Babusselam Refugee Camp for years due to the civil war continue to move to the City of Hope.

“It is a great pleasure to start moving in before winter”

IHH Secretary General Dr. Durmus Aydin, who gave information about the project, said: “Families who have been living in tent camps under difficult conditions for many years have a living space with better facilities in the City of Hope. Especially before the winter season, the completion of the project and the fact that the families have started to move in was a separate occasion of happiness. Inshallah, 1400 families will find their new homes here. The City of Hope is fully equipped with all basic infrastructure such as water and sewage networks, electricity infrastructure and paved roads. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this project, especially Qatar Charity Organization, which has made great efforts.".
