Gaza is facing one of the greatest genocides in recorded history. Due to the attacks by the apartheid regime of Israel, severe restrictions on humanitarian aid, and the collapse of infrastructure, a deep food, clean water, and health crisis is unfolding across Gaza. Health centers and hospitals are among the areas most severely affected by Israel’s ongoing massacres in Gaza. Since October 2023, more than 1,000 attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza have been recorded. Current conditions are also heightening the risk of epidemics, with thousands of cases of infectious diseases identified. Due to medical logistics constraints, fuel shortages, and ongoing bombardments, the healthcare system in Gaza has largely ceased to function.
Thousands Affected by Infectious Diseases
In the areas where Israel has forced Gazans to relocate, extremely high population density in confined spaces, inadequate water and sanitation services, waste accumulation, rodent and ectoparasite infestations, restricted access to healthcare, and poor sanitation and hygiene—all of which have worsened environmental conditions—have elevated the risk of epidemics to critical levels. Tens of thousands of people, most of them children, are enduring difficult times due to chickenpox and other infectious diseases. Additionally, thousands of cancer and dialysis patients in Gaza are awaiting medical evacuation. Due to inadequate healthcare resources and restrictions on the delivery of medical supplies, these patients are unable to access the urgent treatment they need.
With the approach of winter, official agencies are warning that once the rains begin, floodwaters could carry sewage and contaminated water into densely populated areas, thereby increasing the risk of disease.

Support from IHH for Shifa Hospital
In addition to its humanitarian aid efforts in various fields in Gaza, IHH—which also carries out work in the health sector—has launched a new project. Thanks to the support of its donors, the foundation has carried out a comprehensive renovation of the Interventional Radiology Department at Shifa Hospital, which sustained severe damage due to attacks by the Israeli occupation forces. Following the renovation, the department has resumed admitting patients. It is expected to serve between 6,000 and 8,000 patients and wounded individuals per month, including cases requiring emergency surgical intervention.
IHH continues its humanitarian aid activities in various sectors across Gaza.
