International Symposium on Qurban
The 2nd International Symposium on Islamic Culture and Civilization were organized on 3-5 June by IHH, Kocaeli University Faculty of Theology and the Kocaeli Municipality. 45 academics and NGO representatives gave presentations on various topics at the 9-session symposium.

The 2nd International Symposium on Islamic Culture and Civilization themed “Qurban” was held at the Kocaeli Congress Center. The symposium was organized jointly by IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, Kocaeli University Faculty of Theology and the Kocaeli Municipality.

The symposium began with opening speeches

On the first day of the symposium, an Islamic music concert was organized by the Kocaeli University Faculty of Theology’s Tasawwuf Music Choir. Following this, opening speeches were delivered. Speeches were given by President for Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş, IHH General Secretary Bülent Yıldırım, Governor of Kocaeli Seddar Yavuz, Mayor of Kocaeli Municipality Dr. Tahir Büyükakın, Kocaeli University Rector Dr. Sadettin Hülagü and Kocaeli University Faculty of Theology Decan Dr. Abdullah Kahraman.

Academics and NGO representatives participated

There were 18 names from academics and NGOs who were on the Organizing Committee of the symposium; Bülent Yıldırım, Dr. Sadettin Hülagü and Dr. Tahir Büyükakın were its Honorary Presidents. 30 academics from 12 universities served in the Scientific Committee of the symposium attended by participants from 7 countries.

5 sessions organized on the second day

On the second day of the symposium, 5 different sessions were held. In the event where 28 academics participated, presentations were given in various topics including “History of Qurban”, “Qurban in the Doctrine of Classical Fiqh”, “Qurban in Other Fiqh Sects”, “Qurban in the Individual, Social and Economical Perspective” and “Current Issues on Qurban.”

Presentations on various topics

On the third day, 17 participants from the academic circle and NGOs addressed the audience in 4 different sessions. In the first session, IHH Board Member Yusuf Bilgin gave a presentation titled “IHH’s Methods and Practices in Qurban Programs Locally and Abroad”, INSAMER Chairman Dr. Ahmet Emin Dağ delivered a presentation titled “An Evaluation on the Social Reaction of Qurban Programs Abroad.” In these sessions, various topics including “Qurban Practices in Turkey”, “Qurban Practices Abroad” and “Non-Government Organizations” were discussed. The last session held was a “General Assessment Session.”

The program aimed to ease the financial burden on families in need, and the newly married couples were presented with dowry packages consisting of basic household items.
