On the 6th of February 2023, two earthquakes measuring 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude occurred respectively at 04:17 and 13:24 in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş. These earthquakes took place at a depth of 8.6 and 7 kilo- meters, respectively, and were reported as being the shallowest earthquakes ever recorded. Due to their proximity to the surface, the earthquakes caused extensive damage.
