From Institutional Contact To Psychological Resilience
Report
This report examines the field experiences of IHH search and rescue volunteers who participated in response efforts following the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, as well as the meaning these volunteers attribute to post-intervention employee support practices. The findings indicate that the disaster site constitutes not merely an operational environment but a multilayered psychological impact domain. Volunteering is framed as a moral and spiritual responsibility, while resilience is reinforced through the interplay of team solidarity, family support, and spiritual values. Furthermore, post-operational institutional contact enhances volunteers’ sense of trust and belonging, thereby rendering the overall experience more psychologically manageable and sustainable.
