IHH, Humanitarian Relief Foundation continues to meet the needs of the victims and the oppressed people from all around the world and reach the charity of the philanthropists to them. Within this scope, signing a meaningful project in the Nyala city of Sudan, IHH became light for 145 students, majority of whom are orphans and memorizing Qur’an by lighting fire in the evening due to the lack of electricity.
The Lighting Project was held in the Al Haramein Qur'an Course in which memorization of Qur’an and the education of Islamic sciences were taught. In January 2018, the IHH teams noticed the lack of electricity while distributing Qur'an in the region and started working to fill this deficiency. The project undertaken by a volunteer with the name Merhume Ayşe Polat was implemented in a short time and the light was provided for the students.
Solar Energy Lighting System
IHH considered the circumstances of the region while implementing the project. Building huge lighting panels for the students who got used to study outside, IHH used solar energy as an energy source. Faruk Erkılıç, from the IHH East African Desk, mentioning that they also gave importance to their work to be ecological, said: "We have been working in the region for many years. The Qur'an Course which we provided light as part of The Lighting Project, was our first step. We are now thinking of spreading this work to orphanages, hospitals, schools and streets."
Time for Memorizing Qur’an will shorten
Before the project, the students were lighting the fire before the morning prayer due to the lack of light. The health of the students who had to sit close to the fire in order to be able to read the written verses from the Qur’an on the woods, called the Luh, was adversely affected by the fire smoke. The students who have been studying by lighting fire for years due to the lack of light, will continue their education more comfortably from now on. In this place where the education standards are upgraded, the students will be able to complete their memorization of Qur’an sooner than before.
