Turkey 28.05.2013

Orphans who came from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Somalia visited historical and cultural sites in İstanbul for a week. Having a lot of fun at the Aquarium and amusement park, the children met with Küçükçekmece Mayor Aziz Yeniay at a dinner held at Küçükçekmece Social Facilities, located near the Küçükçekmece Lake. Following the dinner, Yeniay joined the children to fly kites and had fun. It was possible to see the happiness of the children in their eyes during the event which was organized to boost their morale.

The 10th Kite Flying Festival was organized at Sabahattin Zaim University where colorful kites embellished the sky. Mayor Yeniay who took part in the event said: “In the morning, we set out with thousands of bike lovers and came here. Then, we flew our kites in the sky. Orphan children who came from different parts of the world are here. We have tried to alleviate their sorrows a little bit. At the same time, we wanted to revive the kite-flying culture which has begun to be forgotten.” Yeniay also offered his thanks to all participants of the event.

Flying kites along with their Turkish friends, Bosnian and Somali children have given messages of peace and brotherhood to the entire world.
