Arakan, Cashmere 16.04.2013

IHH, which has been carrying out relief efforts in refugee camps in Arakan and neighboring countries, has delivered food, cleaning supplies and toys for children to the refugee families in Jammu Kashmir in cooperation with UK-based Mother Helpage Worldwide (MHWW).

A total of 400 families received aid packages including 25 kilograms of rice, 10 kilograms of flour, 2 liters of cooking oil, half kilogram of Indian saffron, eight bars of soap. Besides basic food stuff, footballs, volleyballs and cricket equipments were also distributed for children.

Moreover, in cooperation with the local administration, IHH teams offered medical examinations to 500 families and delivered medicine to those who need.

Hundreds of Arakanese people live under very difficult circumstances in Jammu Kashmir. The flow of refugees to Arakan which began five years ago has increased over the past two months when the massacres in Arakan have intensified.

Hundreds of Muslims were killed while around one million people were left homeless in Arakan where Muslim villages, mosques and madrasahs were set on fire and ravaged by radical Buddhist groups. IHH has been taking relief to the region since the outbreak of the unrest in the country.
