Somali, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, has spent the past two decades with domestic turmoil, wars and hardships caused by these. Drought has deteriorated further in the country in the past several months and become fatal, adversely affecting 10 million financially-challenged people in Somali.
While thousands of animals have lost their lives due to the drought, people have almost no access to clean water. It sometimes takes weeks for a person to have access to the average amount of water one should take daily.
When the political turmoil in Somali is added to these problems, the Somali people desperately need help. The IHH which has carried out many relief efforts in the region lately delivered food relief to 7,000 people in three different parts of the country. In partnership with the local ZamZam Foundation, the IHH delivered 10 tons of rice, 6,5 tons of sugar and 2,880 kilograms of vegetable oil to 1,007 (7,000) families in the region.
