IHH undertakes care for 400 Somali orphans
The IHH extended its helping hand to another 400 Somali orphans fighting hunger and epidemic diseases and undertook their care. The foundation will be paying for the orphans’ food, shelter and clothin
Africa, Somalia 15.08.2011

The intensifying drought in East Africa has hit children worst. Thousands of children have died from malnourishment and epidemic diseases. It is feared that more children might die unless necessary aid is delivered urgently.

As in any crisis situation, famine in East Africa is affecting children and unprotected orphans most. The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation had been caring for 600 Somali orphans since 2005. The foundation, however, stepped up relief works directed at orphans as drought intensified in East Africa and included another 400 Somali orphans in care program over the last three weeks. In total 1000 Somali orphans will be financed by sponsor families from Turkey through the IHH.

Food, shelter and clothing needs of the 1000 orphans will be met by the IHH with the Sponsor Family System it launched several years ago. However, thousands of orphans in East Africa are waiting to be saved. Concerned Turkish citizens can care for a Somali orphan with a monthly donation of 70 Turkish liras.
