The IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation held the kite flying event to commemorate the martyrs of the Mavi Marmara. The event took place in Sarayburnu simultaneously with a a same event in Gaza which lives under Israeli blockade.

A total of 1,500 specially-designed kites were distributed to the people who attended the event. Many Turks who are sensitive about the tragedy in Gaza flocked to Sarayburnu port to join the event. Some of the kites bore the photo of Mavi Marmara and a slogan which said: “Mavi Marmara continues its voyage,” while others featured photos of nine Mavi Marmara martyrs and Palestinian flags.

Meanwhile, graffiti artists drew graffiti on a special platform during the event. As the first anniversary of the Mavi Marmara attack draws near, the IHH will continue to hold commemoration ceremonies. The commemoration ceremonies will be concluded with a procession in İstanbul’s Taksim Square on May 30. The procession will be joined by many non-governmental organizations being mainly the IHH.
