IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation started distributing food in Ethiopia where regional drought created a food crisis. Afar and Somali regions which are most affected by drought were given priority in aid delivery to relieve the desperate people a little bit.

As first step 400 families received food aid that would last them one month in Awroble village of Somali’s capital Jigjiga in Ethiopia. The food aid hampers containing oil, flour, and rice were delivered to the families by IHH teams.

Due to insufficient rain lakes and wells have dried up in the regions where the drought is prevalent. So the people have little or no access to water. Since the most people raise cattle to make a living their livelihood is at stake because drought causes cattle stocks decrease and the harvest go bad. Therefore the drought resulted in a food crisis in Ethiopia where the situation may get worse unless the expected rainfall does happen.

IHH teams who traveled to the region continues working about the drought which affected more than 10 million people and try to make an estimate on the situation. According to the reports of our teams we will keep delivering aid to the region.
