The first set of meetings to coordinate and discuss the matters regarding the World Humanitarian Summit that will be organized by UN and hosted by Turkey in 2016 took start in Istanbul.
Representatives from 36 humanitarian relief organizations including Turkish Red Crescent and UN participated in the meeting hosted by IHH.
WHY REGIONAL DISCUSSIONS?
International organizations would like to prepare more efficiently for the 2016 Summit through those prep meetings in order to get more instrumental results in the future decisions.
These discussions are designed for the exchange of ideas between governments, humanitarian organizations, UN, civil society, private sector, technical experts and all other partners that will help shaping up the agenda of the summit.
The discussions will revolve around four main themes, which are efficient humanitarian aid, eliminating vulnerability and risk management, fulfilling the needs of people in adversity, renewal and evolution.
HUMANITARIAN AID CONDITIONS CHANGED
In its general assembly meeting in last October, UN has decided to hold the first ever World Humanitarian Summit in Turkey designed to improve the efficiency of NGOs in resolving the humanitarian crisis in the world.
The current humanitarian aid system was established 25 years ago.
The conditions of humanitarian aid have extensively changed so far. The need for humanitarian aid increased as well as the number of humanitarian organizations operating. Therefore, with the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ahmet Davutoglu the summit for more efficient international humanitarian aid in primarily Syrian and all regions of crisis and natural disaster will be spearheaded by UN and take place in Istanbul.
